Luggage loss or delay

Mastercard Black Credit Cardholders can benefit from peace of mind knowing that expenses incurred as a result of delay or loss of luggage are covered, and that expert help is available to assist you in finding your lost luggage.

Who Has Coverage:

Mastercard Black Credit Cardholders, their Spouses or Fathers and Dependent Children of the Cardholder, whether traveling together or separately. 

To Obtain Coverage

Coverage is automatically provided when the total cost of a Common Transportation Mode fare has been charged to the Black Credit Mastercard and / or has been purchased with points earned through an eligible Rewards Program associated with The Black Credit Mastercard (Ex. Travel Points). For an Insured Person to be eligible for coverage, you must pay all associated taxes, Shipping and handling fees and any other charges required with your Black Credit Mastercard and / or your Rewards Points associated with your Black Credit Mastercard. 

The Type of Coverage you receive 

Assistance Services:

- Specialized assistance services are provided for the tracking and tracing of lost luggage. 
- Offers assistance or documentation related services, such as filing of complaints, determination of appropriate measures, contact with the corresponding authorities in the Common Transport Company. 
- We will be responsible for keeping you informed about the status of your case and location of the luggage as the information becomes available and we will communicate with you constantly (at least once every 24 hours) until the final outcome of your case is determined . 
- We will make sure that the luggage is sent to your final destination or to your home. 
- If it is determined that the luggage is unrecoverable, we will help you to file your claim and we will assist you with any other necessary action that must be taken.

Baggage Delay - Benefits: If your baggage is delayed for more than four (4) hours after the actual time of arrival at the intended destination, you will be eligible to receive a benefit of up to USD 600 † as reimbursement for expenses incurred in Purchase of essentials such as clothing that has been acquired as a result of delayed baggage (regardless of the amount of baggage checked).Coverage is considered applicable only for expenses incurred, including expenses for medical prescriptions, between four (4) hours and four (4) days after the actual time of arrival at the intended destination. Baggage Delay coverage applies to baggage on any Covered Travel, national or international, including in the Permanent Resident's City of the Insured Person. 

Baggage Loss - Benefits: If your luggage is lost and determined unrecoverable by the Common Carrier, your baggage is insured up to USD 3,000 † (regardless of the amount of luggage checked). The coverage applies to luggage on any Covered Travel, national or international. 

Conditions / Limitations of Coverage

- Your luggage must be properly registered and under the possession, care, custody and control of the Common Carrier Company during a Covered Trip. 
- Insurance coverage and support services are provided for Covered Travel, worldwide. 
- A Covered Trip will be considered to have started when the Insured Person embarks on a Common Mode of Transport for the purpose of going on said trip, leaves the initial starting point, and continues until the Insured Person descends from the Medium Of Common Transport for the purpose of returning from said trip. 
- The luggage, which seems to be delayed or lost, at the final destination of the Covered Trip, 
Must be formally notified (immediately) and a claim must be filed with the Common Transport Company - Baggage must be determined and verified as delayed or irrecoverable by the Common Transport Company 
- Lost electronic equipment is subject to A maximum limit of USD 500 † per item, not to exceed the maximum sum insured. 
- For Delayed Baggage, receipts for expenses incurred will be required if the Additional and Reasonable Expenses exceed $ 200 † to the maximum of the insured sum of $ 600 †. 

What is NOT Covered (Exclusions) 

There is no coverage for losses caused by or as a result of: 

1) wear and tear or gradual deterioration; 
2) insects or harmful animals; 
3) own vice or damage; 
4) confiscation or expropriation by order of any government or public authority; 
5) embargo or destruction under quarantine or customs regulations; 
6) radioactive contamination; 
7) usurpation of power or actions taken by governmental authorities to prevent, combat or defend against such an event; 
(8) the transportation of smuggling or illegal trade; 
9) Damage from broken or fragile items, such as radios, audio equipment and similar items or property. 
10) Travel to the city of permanent residence in the location of Residence of the Insured Person (Not applicable for the Loss of Baggage benefit) 
11) AIG (The Company) and / or corresponding Reinsurer, Will not be responsible for providing any coverage or making any continuation of payment if doing so implies being in violation of any law or regulation of penalties that would expose AIG (the Company) and / or corresponding Reinsurer, its parent company or its subsequent controlling entity to Any sanction under any law or sanction regulation. 

No coverage is provided for the loss of any of the following:

1) animals, birds or fish; 
2) automobiles or equipment for automobiles, boats, engines, trailers, motorcycles or other means of transport or their accessories (except bicycles while they have been registered as Baggage with the Common Carrier); 
3) furniture found in the home; 
4) eyeglasses or contact lenses; 
5) dentures or artificial teeth or dental bridges; 
6) hearing aids; 
7) prosthesis; 
8) musical instruments; 
9) money or values; 
10) tickets or documents; 
11) perishable articles and consumables; 
12) jewelery, watches, articles containing in whole or in part, silver, gold or platinum, furs, articles with ornaments or made mainly of leather. 

Definitions - Luggage 

Protection Accident: refers to a sudden, unpredictable, uncontrollable and unexpected physical event that occurs to the Insured Person caused by external, violent and visible means during the Covered Trip. 

AIG (The Company): means the Company that signs the Insurance Coverage. 

Up-to-date: means an Account that is up-to-date on your fees and payments and that follows all other requirements of the issuer. 

Travel Companion : Means the person traveling with the eligible Cardmember in the same time of travel. 

Spouse: means the spouse or spouse of the Cardholder, as legislated or regulated by local laws, And who lives in the same residence as the Cardholder in the Cardholder's location of Residence. 

Account: means the International use of a Mastercard Black Credit account open and up-to-date (not canceled, suspended or defaulted) at the time of: 
- The purchase of Common Transport Media tickets for Baggage Protection coverage. 

Property Damage: means physical damage to, destruction of or loss of use of tangible property due to an unforeseen event. 

Dependent: means the Cardholder's Spouse or Dependent's Parents and Dependent Children 

Issuer: Means a Bank or financial institution (or similar entity) or Corporation and / or Government Institution that is admitted and / or authorized by Mastercard to operate a Mastercard program in the Mastercard Black Credit card issuing Territory. 

Baggage means any container used to carry belongings when traveling, such as suitcases, trunks and bags of travelers, which the Common Transport Company has "registered" and is in possession and control of the same. This does not include hand baggage items. 

Additional and Reasonable Expenses: Means the expenses of food and accommodation where it is necessary to incur as a result of a covered event and which are not provided by the Common Carrier or any other part for free. Dependent Child (s): means named dependent children, including adopted children, and stepchildren, of the cardholder, ranging from newborns to 18 years of age, or 25 years of full-time attendance to an accredited Higher education, who are single and permanently resident with the Cardmember, and receive a majority of their support and support from the Insured Person. 
Children who are fully dependent on the Insured Person (s) for support and maintenance due to a permanent physical or mental disability shall be deemed dependent upon the Insured Person (s) If the Insured Person (s) is entitled to benefits. 
To verify the eligibility of a dependent Child (ren) with physical or mental disabilities, the Cardholder may be required to present medical records related to the child (ren) in charge with physical or mental disabilities. 

Mastercard: means Mastercard International (or Mastercard Worldwide), a corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware, USA. Main Commercial Headquarters at 2000 Purchase Street, Purchase, NY 

10577. Common Transportation Mode: Means any conveyor by land, water or air operated under a valid and up-to-date license for the carriage of passengers by contract for which a ticket has been obtained. 

" Facto couple " means a couple of the same sex or opposite sex, who has fulfilled all the following requirements for at least 12 months: (1) remains together with the Insured Person in the cardholder's principal residence; (2) shares the financial assets and obligations with the Cardholder; (3) is not related by blood ties with the Cardmember to a degree of closeness that prohibits a legal marriage; (4) is at least of age in the state in which they reside; And (5) neither the Cardholder or Facto Couple is married to any other person, nor has any Facto Couple. 

Insured Person (s): means a Mastercard Black Credit Cardholder as well as any other person identified as eligible in the "Who Has Coverage" section of each program in this guide. 

Policy: means the insurance contract and the attached endorsements or attachments issued to Mastercard Points or Reward Program: means a program developed / offered by Mastercard and the issuer, which allows Cardholders to accumulate value (miles points, cash, Etc.) and redeem rewards (merchandise, travel, etc.) on an eligible Mastercard. Eligible Rewards Programs must be the consequence of transactions made with a "plastic" card associated with Mastercard, Regardless of the value earned (points per mileage, cash, etc.). Reward Programs in which points are not generated by transactions made with a "plastic" card, or are not associated with Mastercard at all, are not considered eligible Rewards Programs. In order for a Cardmember to be eligible for coverage, he / she must pay all associated taxes, shipping and handling fees, and any other fees required with your eligible Mastercard or with Reward Points associated with your Mastercard. 

Cardholder: means a person who has an eligible Account and whose name is on the surface (recorded or otherwise) of a Mastercard Black Credit card, provided by an Issuer in the Issuing Territory. 

Issuer Territory: means the Latin America and Caribbean Region where the products were registered and / or their registration is in process but the regulator has approved the benefit for sale, which includes but is not limited to: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Grenadines, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti , Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint. Lucia, Saint Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, US Virgin Islands, Uruguay and Venezuela 

Travel Covered: Means a trip where (a) the Insured Person's full rate has been charged to an Eligible Account or (b) purchased with an eligible card that received points for miles, and other similar rewards program trips issued by Mastercard or an International Mastercard Issuer, or (c) both points (a) and (b) of this definition and by an Insured Person on behalf of another Insured Person. In addition, if the previous definition has been fulfilled and a change in the air fare and / or change of flight and / or a class improvement occurs, which has been made with other forms of payments or Rewards Program, it will also be considered a Journey Covered; However the maximum amount of insured benefit will be based on the eligible class of purchase of the passenger's original rate and this will be only the applicable benefit amount.

How to File a Claim 

In the event of a claim, the following procedures must be followed:


1) You (the Cardholder) or the beneficiary, or someone acting legally on behalf of either of you, must notify us as required by the Notification Period of the Claim; Otherwise, your claim may be rejected. Upon receipt of notice of the claim, the Plan Administrator or the Insurance Company will provide the claimant with the required Claim Form (s); 
2) Complete the claim forms in full, signed and dated 
3) Submit all of the Required Information (Proof of Loss), as explained in this section, Within the Submission Period from the date of notification of the claim. 

Please note that additional information may sometimes be requested in order to process your claim. It is your responsibility to provide this information to process the claim.

LUGGAGE PROTECTION * Claim Notification

Period: Within ninety (90) days after the date of loss. 

Presentation Period: Not later than one hundred eighty (180) days after the date of Notification of the Claim. 

Required Information (proof of loss):

a) copies of the notice and report filed with the Common Carrier and all related correspondence, Property Indemnification Report (PIR) - the form must include the number of Flight, vessel number or bill of lading and luggage registration number; 
B) transaction verification confirming that the passenger fare for the Covered Trip was fully charged to its Mastercard Black Credit card, Including copies of the ticket (s) and receipts of the Common Carrier; 
C) receipts of expenses incurred, IF expenses incurred exceed USD 200 † (up to the maximum sum of USD 600 † per Baggage Withdrawal); 
D) Cardholder's statement showing eligibility according to the definition of "Account" in the Key Terms and Definitions section (General)

Payment: 

Where As permitted by law, the Loss of Life Benefit is payable to the beneficiary designated by the Insured Person. If there is no such designated person, the payment of the claim shall be made to the first beneficiary who survives the Insured Person, as follows: 

a. Spouse or Partner of Fact; 
B. Children, in equal parts; 
C. Parents, in equal parts; 
D. Brothers and sisters, in equal parts; And 
e. Excuse the administrator. 

Subject to the applicable terms and conditions, all other benefits will be paid to the Insured Person or another corresponding party when necessary. The payment of any indemnity will be subject to the laws and governmental regulations that are in force in the location where the payment is made.

Valid Account: (1) In order to enjoy the benefits, coverage or services, your Mastercard card account must be open, valid and current; And 2) If, on the date of an accident, event or incident that causes or results in a loss covered by an insurance plan, your account is not open, valid and up to date, or incurred in arrears, collection or Cancellation, the Benefits will not be paid and the coverage will not apply. 

Cardholder's Duties After a Loss (Due Diligence): You must use all reasonable means to avoid a future loss at the time and after a loss occurs, and to fully comply with all of the duties described. This includes full cooperation with the Insurance Company, the Plan Administrator, and the Third Party Claims Administrator acting on behalf of Mastercard for programs or other services offered as benefits to a cardholder in the investigation, evaluation and payment of a claim. 

Concealment, Fraud or False Disclaimer: The coverage / benefits or insurance services described in this document will be voided, either before or after a loss or to make a service request, If you have intentionally concealed or distorted any material fact or circumstance or provided fraudulent information about insurance plans or other services described in this document, to: Mastercard International, the Insurance Company, the financial institution issuing The Card Account or any other company that provides services and / or administration on behalf of these programs. 

Legal Actions: No legal action can be taken to recover on a Policy until sixty (60) days elapse after the Insurance Company has received written proof of the loss. Said action may not be filed after three (3) years from the time it is required that the proof of loss be submitted in writing. 

Compliance with local statutes: Any provision of a Policy that, as of its effective date, conflicts with the statutes of the location in which the policy is delivered or issued for delivery is hereby amended to comply with Minimum requirement of those statutes. 

Sanctions: AIG (the Company) and / or the corresponding Reinsurer shall not be responsible for providing any coverage or making any continuation of payment if doing so implies being in violation of any law or regulation of sanctions that would expose AIG (The Company) and / Or the corresponding Reinsurer, its parent company or its subsequent controlling entity to any sanction under any law or regulation of sanctions. 

Arbitration: Any dispute relating to the terms of any Master Insurance Policy, including any questions regarding its existence, validity or termination shall be submitted to and resolved by arbitration, and in accordance with the arbitration rules / regulations of the location where your card account has been issued Mastercard.
